This is the only museum in the world that features a permanent exhibition of Kamigata Ukiyoe, or Kamigata woodblock prints.

Kamigata Ukiyoe were printed and sold in Kamigata which is what the Osaka- Kyoto region was commonly called during the Edo Period (1603- 1868).

This museum is dedicated to the gorgeous Ukiyoe prints from the illustrative and highly creative Kamigata area. These prints depicted the Kabuki actors from Osaka, and are representatives of their elegant style and personality.

The Kamigata region, which in those days had a much longer tradition of art and culture behind it than did Edo area, created woodblock prints which were quite different from those of the Edo area. They were much more realistic, tending to express the true personalities of their subjects, especially of the great Kabuki actors of the day.

The Kamigata Ukiyoe Museum has some 50 works in its permanent exhibition. Compared to the Edo (Tokyo) prints, the ones from Kamigata are much more glamorous and are a cultural must- see.

Hours: 11a.m- 6p.m; Daily.
