This annual autumn parade brings together over a million people to witness a grand procession down the main boulevard of Osaka. The first parade was held in 1983 as a celebration of the Osaka 21st Century Plan, a program designed to promote Osaka culture worldwide.

The "plan" involves a number of large- scale projects aimed at developing Osaka into a cosmopolitan, cultural city for the 21st century, and the parade has become a hugely popular symbol of its ongoing success.

Around 100 performing groups take part, with floats, marching bands, baton twirlers and groups from all over the world, such as the Regimental Band of the Coldstream Guards from England.

Each year there is a theme for the performers to interpret and enormous effort is put into creating spectacular costumes, floats and artwork. The parade goes from Oe- bridge in front of Osaka City Hall and continues for two miles to Namba.

Hundreds of local and international performers hit the street including marching bands, baton twirlers, dancers, and singers. Bring the whole family along to check out the colorful costumes and creative floats. The parade starts in front of Osaka City Hall and heads to Namba.
