Located in Naniwa, close to the center of Osaka, this museum was opened in 1965, with human rights as its focal theme.
On display are wide ranging historical materials in various fields related to human rights such as discrimination against women, ethnic minorities and the physically handicapped.
The museum is also involved in activities aimed at preserving, disseminating and presenting performing arts, music and other forms of traditional culture.
The museum holds historical documents and cultural assets on human rights including the movement of indiscrimination, issues of women and disabled. There are as many as 31,000 items of folk crafts, old historical records, videos displayed in order to develop awareness of human rights and cultural exchange.
Its purpose is to spread human rights awareness and contribute to the development of a more human rights- sensitive culture. The museum holds not only permanent exhibitions but special exhibitions and project exhibitions, and also sponsors lectures.
